The small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus (Fallén) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) is one of the major rice pests caused rice diseases by sap sucking. Three plant virus diseases are transmitted by Laodelphax striatellus: the rice black-streaked dwarf virus, rice stripe virus and Barley yellow striate mosaic virus, which can cause epidemic proportions.
